Jennifer Maione brings the rock back into the roll of the female artist while remaining just the Average Girl.
Inspired by cathartic determination, Brooklyn singer/songwriter Jennifer Maione now unleashes fiery new lyrics coupled with the raw emotion of rock n’ roll riffs and melodies to fuel The Average Girl, her newest release.
“I chose this title because on my journey as an artist I tried to stay in touch with my listeners and not to become too self-indulgent, basically just remain down to earth, and it actually turned out to be exactly what made me feel special.” Average Girl is a diary that documents Maione’s personal journey, both as an artist and woman.
Maione’s music reflects a lifetime of influence handed down by the giants of Blues, Folk, and Rock n’ Roll, such as Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, and Neil Young. While lyrically conveying grownup steps in a new direction, Maione maintains her roots as the Average Girl.
“I chose to continue moving in this direction because it just felt so natural. When I started writing as a solo artist and I wasn’t part of a band anymore I really changed things up and went from a exploration of the characters in life to a much more personal narration of my own life.” And it seems to have worked, Maione’s first EP received instantaneous positive press. “Maione’s work stands our from the pack in it’s quality and appeal. Maione, along with producer Riley McMahon, created songs that blend seventies rock instrumentation and contemporary production ideas with imaginative lyrics on Average Girl. “Not only did I grow up on the greats of rock n’ roll but I was also a Literature major in college so my second love after music is writing, primarily short stories. To me every song is an opportunity to tell a story. My next challenge is coming up with a fitting soundtrack for my newest tale.” The result, rock-solid music with emotive lyrics that keep you humming right along with each contagious melody.
